Band

The Heelan Band program provides an artistic outlet to students of various skill levels and musical backgrounds. As band members, students develop individual and ensemble skills by focusing on technique and fundamentals to be demonstrated in a performance setting.

Marching Crusaders
The Marching Crusaders are a competitive marching band that performs at home football games and festivals across the Midwest.  In addition to the marching show, the Marching Crusaders play pep tunes during the football games and participate in the Bishop Heelan Homecoming Parade. The group not only consists of instrumentalists, but also color guard members that combine dance and flag choreography to increase the visual effect of the show.

Wind Ensemble
The Heelan Wind Ensemble begins rehearsing at the end of marching season and is the main band of the program. Students meet each morning to learn instrumental techniques, audial skills, and music theory in a large group setting. The ensemble typically performs three concerts a year that are programmed to feature different genres and styles of music.

Jazz Band
The Gold and Blue Jazz Band is an auditioned group of students that rehearse outside the regular school day. The ensemble consists of saxophonists, trombonists, trumpeters, and a rhythm section that rehearses and performs a variety of jazz genres including swing, Latin, funk, rock and more. In addition to their regular concert schedule, the Gold and Blue Jazz Band competes with other jazz ensembles at multiple festivals during the spring season.
