Five Classroom Grants Support Learning

Holy Cross, Sacred Heart Receive Grants to benefit students

It’s Happy New Year for Holy Cross and Sacred Heart School teachers in the form of five classroom grants totaling $3,418 to benefit student learning. The grants are awarded to K-5 teachers who apply to the Excellence in Education program of the Siouxland Community Foundation to support local public and private schools.

Holy Cross Teachers Awarded Grants 
• Lisa Froehlich: Guided Reading for Early Elementary, $500
• Martina Taylor and Eileen Lord: Literacy Achievement through Intervention, $1,000
• Patricia Boggs and Pam Wilmes: Guided Reading for Elementary Students, $918
• Stephanie Janssen:   Percussion instruments for young band, $500

Sacred Heart Teacher Awarded Grant 
• Connie Collette:  After School Tutoring, $500 

The Siouxland Community Foundation recently helped 102 area non-profits raise over $100,000 though a one day of giving blitz called the Siouxland Big Give. It administers over 150 charitable funds, established by donors, and awards nearly 350 grants and scholarships yearly to Siouxland nonprofit organizations and graduating seniors, including Heelan seniors, to help support needs in education, arts and culture, environment and more.
