The Heelan Auction for Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools became a rockin’ success on April 15, as the annual big fundraiser for the Catholic school exceeded its goals.

The gross proceeds raised was $551,322. That includes silent auction, live auction and other donations made throughout the night.

The money will go toward the general fund for Bishop Heelan. This is the only fundraising event that supports the entire BHCS system.

““We thank everyone for their support at the Heelan Auction,” said BHCS President Dr. John Flanery. “It was totally awesome to see so much money raised for BHCS and we can’t do what we do without your generosity.”

There were nine chairpeople on the Auction committee this year: Matt and Bridget Breen; Nate and Mindy Foulk; Saul and JoBeth Gomez; Kane and Mandi Kuehl and Tim Uber. They represented Heelan High, Holy Cross, Mater Dei schools and alumni.

The Auction committee also awarded its Volunteer of the Year and Crusaders of the Year. The Volunteer of the Year was Scott Plathe, while the Crusaders of the Year are Doug and Amy Skinner.

Businesses donated at different levels to sponsor the Auction, while over 600 tickets were sold.

There was also the Fund-A-Cause portion of the night, which raised more than $108,000. That broke the Fund-A-Cause record. The cause for the Fund-A-Cause was the CYO Locker Room. The renovations include major plumbing, electrical, heating and air conditioning, framing, dry wall, fixtures, showers and more.
