Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools hired Eric Johnson in May as its new Financial Analyst to the administration team.

Johnson is from Sigourney, Iowa, and graduated from Sigourney High School in 2020. He then recently earned a Business Management degree from William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

He also took college classes through Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa while a student at Sigourney.

“We’re thrilled to bring in Eric for this role,” said Dr. John Flanery, BHCS president. “Eric brings in a fresh, energetic perspective right out of college and we’re eager to have him.”

Johnson searched for finance jobs around the state, and found that Bishop Heelan had an opening. He wanted to get into finance, and saw the opportunity that BHCS presented.

“I wanted to move somewhere bigger,” Johnson said. “The people here are great, and I knew that from the very first interview. I love learning the deeper side of accounting and finance. I learn so much every single day.”

Johnson considered becoming a teacher or something in the psychology field, but a couple months before graduating from William Penn, he decided on business. He said he was “obsessed” with how the financial markets worked.

“You can apply business to everything,” Johnson said. “It wasn’t until I got to college that I really fell in love with finance. I started trading stocks and I fell in love with personal finance.”

Outside of work, Johnson enjoys working out, and has recently taken up playing golf with Tom Betz ‘85 and Bishop Heelan science teacher Dr. John Jorstad ‘90.
