New TouchWall Installed at Heelan

TouchWall and website showcase Heelan history

A large touch screen TV has been installed over a floor-to-ceiling mural of old Heelan High School in Heelan’s main hallway to display Heelan Shield yearbooks, history, academic achievers, athletic records, fine arts and more.

The new “touchwall” at Heelan displays a newly built website with three major tabs for academics and alumni, activities and athletics.

Students, staff and visitors can access photos and video at the touch of a finger. Content also can be viewed from anywhere by visiting bishopheelan.touchpros.com.

The Heelan touchwall has been a goal, according to Jay Wright, co-athletic director who has compiled Crusader boys and girls sports records for years.

“We have talked with a rep about this project for years,” Wright said. “We’re excited to showcase our graduates, Heelan history and achievement to students, staff and visitors in our building and alumni anywhere.”

Once again donors have made a difference, said Tom Betz '85, BHCS vice president of advancement.

“Dozens of our alumni and parents believed in this project and donated nearly $12,000 in Siouxland Big Give last October,” Betz said. “Every yearbook page has been scanned for the touchwall. Photos and info are being added. Our old high school may be gone but Heelan history will live on in this touchwall and website.”

Information will be steadily added to the wall in the months and years ahead to showcase accomplished alumni, alumni military service, state championship games and highlight videos, Crusader of the Year and Volunteer of the Year award recipients and more.
