Student test scores shine brightly at Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools. Recent data of Iowa Assessment Scores show excellent results for BHCS students in grades 3-11.

Taken in November 2017, the tests show student proficiency and growth in math, science and reading.  Reading measures comprehension and vocabulary, while math measures algebraic thinking, statistics and probability and more.

The scores below show the percent proficient by grade of Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools, compared to AEA schools (including Sergeant Bluff and Hinton) and the State of Iowa. GR represents grade level. BH is short for BHCS.

Sioux City Catholic schools use Iowa Assessments, STAR reading and math computer adaptive assessments and more to monitor student learning, according to Kate Connealy, Sacred Heart School Principal who chairs the BHCS multi–tiered system of support committee.

“We are pleased with these Iowa Assessment Scores for our students and continually address student growth and progress,” Connealy says. “We use computer adaptive programs, interventions and enrichment to meet all of our students’ needs.”

Students will take the new Iowa Assessment tests this spring.
