Questions: TADS

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • How do I apply for tuition assistance?
BHCS Financial Assistance Program applications must be submitted online at www.mytads.com.

  • When is the application open?
The online application is open on February 15, 2023. The application is available in English and Spanish.

  • When are applications due? When will we be notified?
    • 1st round - Application due April 1
      • Notification letters are sent to families in mid-May
    • 2nd round - New students only
      • Application due September 15
      • Notification letters sent to families in mid-October

  • What if I don't have internet access to complete the online application?
We are providing the following workshop sessions at Bishop Heelan High School for families to complete the TADS application:
    • February 15, 2023      4-8 p.m.
    • March 23, 2023          4-8 p.m.

  • What documentation will I need to complete the application?
The required supporting documentation will be outlined at the beginning and end of the online application and is tailored specifically to what was entered on our application. Typically, TADS requires your most recently filed 1040 tax form (or verification of non-filing status from the IRS), your most recent W2 statements and your most recent paystubs as well as documentation of the stated debt on your application.

  • How can I send in the supporting documentation?
You can mail, fax or upload your documentation to the TADS system.

  • What if I do not send in my supporting documentation?
Your application may not be considered for financial aid.

  • What if I want to leave my online application and come back to it later?
You may log back into the TADS system and complete the application at any time. It is important to remember your username and password that you created for your account. If you have forgotten your password, please go into the parent section under "Forgot Password" and enter your email address. TADS will email your password to your email address on record.

  • How do I know if you have received my fax, mail or upload?
TADS will send you an email within 48 business hours of receiving your fax, mailed document or upload. Please do not call if you simply want to confirm unless you have previously received an error.

  • What is an application worksheet?
The worksheet asks the same questions as the TADS application and its purpose is to help prepare a family to fill out the online application. Please note that the worksheet cannot be submitted in place of an application. Click on the TADS Worksheets link on the left to access a copy.

  • Do I include all children and their schools on the application?
    Yes.

  • Do Foreign Exchange Students qualify?
Residence in Iowa is temporary for foreign exchange students, therefore, would not qualify for any Diocesan assistance.

  • How should divorced parents apply?
In the case of divorced parents, the tuition responsibility of each parent should be indicated on the application. (ex: 50 - 50 split on tuition, then award is based on 50% tuition). Tuition assistance to one parent cannot be split between the parents. If divorced parents each pay a portion of the tuition bill, then each household needs to complete an application for a possible award toward their portion of tuition.

  • How should guardians apply?
Applications for a student residing with grandparents or guardians should be filled out by the individual who claims the students(s) on a tax return. TADS will use that tax return to determine eligibility and need.

  • How should foster parents apply?
Families with foster children in their home should complete a separate application with just those children listed on it. Any income such as state subsidies should be included; however, no expenses need to be listed. The application should exclude all financial information of the parents and foster parents.

  • What is the cost to apply? What if the application fee is cost prohibitive for my family?
For the 2023-2024 school year the $33 TADS application fee is being covered by the Diocese and this is a savings to families.

  • Are special financial circumstances considered?
Families experiencing hardship are to be evaluated by TADS during the review of the application. The diocesan award amounts recommended by TADS cannot be altered by Diocesan staff or school representative due to financial hardships.

  • What if I have a question about how to complete the application?
TADS is happy to assist families with questions about completing their applications. You may reach TADS staff at 1-800-477-8237, Monday thru Friday, 7:00 am to 8:00 pm CST and Saturday 9:00 am to 4:00 pm CST. TADS staff are also available through live chat on their website www.mytads.com or by email at [email protected]. You may also contact BHCS at 712-226-0416.

  • Can an application be withdrawn?
Applicants who choose to withdraw their application for financial aid must communicate directly with TADS their decision to withdraw. Neither the school representative or Diocesan staff can make that request.
