Posted on 01/24/2024

Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools will be celebrating Catholic Schools Week from Sunday, Jan. 29 to Friday, Feb. 2. The week will be full of service opportunities and celebrations among all our Catholic schools.

The highlight will be the All-School Mass — which will be held at Bishop Heelan’s O’Gorman Fieldhouse — at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30. Students will be bussed to Bishop Heelan High School from Holy Cross, Mater Dei and Sacred Heart schools and the Cathedral Dual Language Academy, and be joined by students from St. Michael’s South Sioux and St. Augustine’s in Winnebago, Neb.

Over 1,600 students, teachers and guests will gather for the Mass. Students will be active in readings and music during the event. Bishop R. Walker Nickless will be in attendance and celebrate the Mass. The event will be live-streamed HERE.

On Monday, each BHCS building sponsors a different Catholic charity. Elementary students will also write letters to first responders, the Chamber of Commerce, the city council and residents at Holy Spirit Retirement Home.

Jan. 31 will be highlighted by adoration from elementary students, and high school students will have prayer teams in the chapel.

The first day of February focuses on the families in the Heelan system. Students will write postcards to their parents, thanking them for investing in their education.

On Feb. 2, the focus will be on the faculty and staff. Parent groups organize thank yous to all teachers and staff.
